Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
