Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest gamblers around the world. While wagering on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money rounds?
